F-22 Raptor
In 1981, the United States Air Force (USAF) has developed an application for a new air superiority fighter, the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) to replace the F-15 Eagle. ATF was a demonstration and validation program undertaken by the USAF to develop the next generation air superiority fighter to counter emerging threats around the world, including the development and proliferation of the Soviet era, with Sukhoi Su-27. It was envisaged that the ATF would incorporate emerging technologies including advanced alloys and advanced composite materials, fly-by-wire flight control system for more advanced propulsion systems and stealth technology (stealth).
